The popular Coffee House Reading Series will begin with an evening of poetry on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the new Genesius Theater.
John Fried, associate professor of English and series organizer, is thrilled to see the new Coffee House season held in the Genesius Theater.
“It’s an amazing space and puts our readings right in the heart of campus,” he explained. “We’re kicking off the series with two amazing poets—Elizabeth Savage and Cynthia Hogue. It’s going to be a great night.”
Savage, poetry editor for Kestrel: A Journal of Literature & Art, has authored Jane & Paige or Sister Goose: Twenty-four women and girls. Her poetry has appeared in Appalachian, Heritage, Court Green, Prime Number, Weave and Wallace Stevens Journal, among others.
Hogue, the author of eight poetry collections, including Revenance, Or Consequence, The Incognito Body and Flux, was the recipient of the 2013 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award from the Academy of American Poets.

Sponsored by the Department of English, the series features established writers presenting their work alongside Duquesne students and other emerging writers.
