Duquesne is again the leader in the College and University Green Power Challenge for the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2015-2016 academic year.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership tracks the collegiate athletic conferences with the highest combined green power usage in the nation. Duquesne uses more electricity from clean, renewable sources than any other school in the Atlantic 10 Conference. With approximately 18 million kilowatt-hours of wind power, the University’s green power usage is nearly twice that of the nearest competitor. This green power accounts for about 36 percent of Duquesne’s total electricity usage.
More than 41 conferences competed in this most recent annual EPA challenge, accounting for a combined green power usage of nearly 2 billion kilowatt-hours—equivalent to the electricity usage of more than 187,000 average American homes annually.
Duquesne, also regularly listed on the EPA’s quarterly, national Top 30 Colleges ranking for its commitment to using green power, again maintained that ranking in the most recent quarter ending in October. These rankings highlight the annual green power use of leading Green Power Partners across the country in different sectors of industry.
