The School of Nursing has been named among the Top 50 Most Social Media Friendly Nursing Schools of 2012.
Nursing-School.com evaluated hundreds of nursing schools to see which have the strongest social media presence. The School of Nursing, which has a presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest, was ranked No. 33.
“We have a Social Media Team in the School of Nursing that has been key in promoting our social media messages,” said Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean and professor of nursing. “We employ methodologies that speak to the high school audience as well as to professional nurses. The Internet has changed how people communicate, and using social media is a great tool for us to get our messages out and a great recruiting tool.”
According to Nursing-School.com, the ranking methodology took into account both the number of followers and the amount of activity on the three most popular sites—Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as the number of followers on LinkedIn.
“Social media provides unparalleled opportunities for knowledge exchange and dissemination of information,” said Glasgow. “The School of Nursing is leveraging technology not only in clinical/patient care but also inside and outside the classroom.”
