Early in his study of theologian John Henry Newman, Dr. Kenneth L. Parker wanted to solve a mystery about his subject, specifically, which books piqued Newman’s curiosity and influenced his work. While a daunting task, Parker found his answer and embarked upon a 25-year project that made him a “biblio-detective.”

Parker will share his story when he presents Newman & the Oriel College Library: A Biblio-Detective Story for the National Institute for Newman Studies’ (NINS) annual Spring Newman lecture at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the Gailliot Center for Newman Studies, located at 211 North Dithridge St. in Oakland.

Parker, interim director of NINS, will discuss how he developed his method to determine Newman’s source material and explain why it matters for Newman studies and scholars.

On Friday, April 7, he will lead a workshop from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the same topic at the Gailliot Center, with a light lunch following.

To register for A Biblio-Detective Story or for more information, contact NINS Communications Coordinator Carole DiClaudio at cdiclaudio@ninsdu.org or 412.681.4375, ext. 12.
