The annual open enrollment period for benefits-eligible employees will begin on Monday, April 17 and run through Thursday, May 25.

This is a once-a-year opportunity for benefits-eligible employees to evaluate and make adjustments (if needed) to their benefit options, including health, dental, vision and life insurance as well as voluntary selections for the upcoming year. Selections made during open enrollment will take effect on July 1.

For the upcoming year, staff will see a change from a three-tier benefit structure to a four-tier structure, which will allow staff to select the Employee, Employee Plus Child(ren), Employee Plus Spouse or a Family tier to meet their unique needs. In addition, there are new physician and specialist office visit copay amounts and an increase in the life insurance maximum.

Employees interested in learning more about the range of available options are encouraged to attend the Benefits Fair on Wednesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Charles J. Dougherty Ballroom, located in the Power Center. University benefit providers will be available to speak with employees and answer questions.

A 2017-2018 Benefits Overview Guide with detailed information about health care, dental, vision and other programs will be available online and mailed to employee homes in advance of the Benefits Fair.

Employees are reminded that flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts and vacation purchase selections do not carry over from year to year—they must be selected each plan year during the open enrollment process.

Informational sessions designed to provide employees with an opportunity to learn more about the Cigna and UPMC health plans will be offered in April and May. Employees can register for information sessions via MyLEAD in DORI

Those who are unable to attend the fair or the sessions are invited to schedule an individual meeting with a member of the benefits office by calling 412.396.5106.
