Next Steps for Bioethics and Global Health Discussed at Kelly Lecture

The Center for Healthcare Ethics will host former chief physician and founding director of the University of Cape Town’s Bioethics Centre to discuss the next steps for bioethics and global health as part of the David F. Kelly Bioethics Lectures.

Dr. Solomon Benatar

Dr. Solomon Benatar, emeritus professor of medicine at the University of Cape Town, will present Bioethics and Health in a Globalized World on Thursday, April 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Africa Room of the Union.

Benatar’s academic research has included respiratory medicine, health services, human rights, academic boycott, medical ethics and global health on which he has published over 250 peer-reviewed journal articles. He also received the Hastings Center’s Henry Knowles Beecher Award in 2011 in recognition of lifetime contributions to ethics.

The David F. Kelly Bioethics Lectures draw nationally and internationally prominent scholars to speak at Duquesne each fall and spring semester on current and emerging topics in bioethics. The purpose of the series is to provide ethics leadership on the crucial issues in health care today.
