After a successful launch, the Monsignor Owen Rice Lecture Series continues on Monday, Feb. 25, with Women Building Communities from noon to 2 p.m. at One Hope Square in the Hill District.
Members of the Ujamaa Collective, a cooperative of African, African-American and Afro-Caribbean women, will discuss how living from an afro-centric perspective has allowed them to become successful business owners and to develop a tradition of economic sustainability for generations.
The five-part lecture series was developed by the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. “The series will explore the special way that community engaged scholarship manifests the Catholic intellectual tradition and Spiritan identity of the University,” said Dr. Darlene Weaver, director of the center.
The remaining off-campus lectures in the series include:
- August Wilson’s Hill District on Thursday, March 21
- Educational Justice in the Hazelwood Context on Friday, March 22.
The Rice on the Road series will conclude on Tuesday, April 2, with a closing dialogue on campus.
All events are free and open to the public. Please visit the Center for the Catholic Intellectual Tradition’s website or call 412.396.1595 for more information and to register.
