The Red Masquers’ annual One-Acts for Charity event will support a well-known national organization with local ties.
Proceeds from this year’s One-Acts for Charity event titled Hunger for What?—which will be held from Thursday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Genesius Theater—will benefit FOCUS North America. FOCUS North America is a national movement to provide action-oriented and sustainable solutions to poverty in communities across America. The organization’s Pittsburgh office is located in the Hill District.
One-Acts for Charity features four one-act plays produced and directed by Duquesne students, each of which reflects the theme of hunger. This year’s featured plays will be Erin Austin’s David Makes His Rounds, Laura Elizabeth Miller’s Fugue, Nick Zangone’s Trophy and Walter Wykes’ The Unwanted.
“One-Acts was always meant to be a way we could give back to our community,” said senior Christina Levi, Red Masquers historian and the artistic director for One-Acts. “Duquesne actively gives back to its neighbors, and we strive to uphold that tradition. The themes add cohesiveness to the production, and help make One-Acts even more special by creating a deeper connection to the charity selected.”
The Red Masquers will be accepting donations, rather than charging for admission. Attendees are encouraged to make a $5 donation at the door. All donations benefit FOCUS North America.
