The 11th annual Human Rights Film Series continues this evening with a free screening of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of College Hall.
Written by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, the film is a sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, which brought the issue of climate change into the heart of popular culture. This follow-up hints at how close the United States is to an energy revolution, with a behind-the-scenes look at Gore’s efforts to combat climate change.
After the screening, Andrew McElwaine, vice president for sustainability at the Heinz Foundation, will share his insights and answer questions from the audience.
Constructing the Terrorist Threat, the next film in the series, will be screened on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The film features Deepa Kumar, one of the nation’s foremost scholars on Islamaphobia, and examines how Muslims have become the predominant face of terror in U.S. news and entertainment media.
Sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Human Rights Film Series is free and open to the public. All screenings begin at 7 p.m. in Room 105 of College Hall. For more information, call 412.396.6415 or visit www.duq.edu/human-rights.
