The free symposium Giuseppe Verdi: 200 Years Later will be presented in the Power Center from 2:30 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.

As Honorary Consul of Italy in Pittsburgh, Dr. Carla Lucente, professor of modern languages and co-director of the Center for International Relations, serves as director for the event.
After a welcome by Dr. James Swindal, dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, scholar Dr. Federica Dallavecchia will give remarks, followed by Maestro Christopher Hahn, general director of the Pittsburgh Opera, who will also speak.
Law Professor Dr. Nicholas P. Cafardi will introduce Dr. Daniela Bini, professor of Italian and comparative literature at the University of Texas, Austin, at 3:15 p.m. She will present the lecture Aida and Amneris: The Angel Cry.
Attendees will screen Franco Zeffirelli’s 2006 film Aida (Part I) at 4:30 p.m. After a wine reception and banquet, the movie will continue from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
This symposium is presented in special collaboration with the Pittsburgh Opera and sponsored by the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Pittsburgh, the Center for International Relations, the Western Pennsylvania Symposium on World Literatures and various patrons and organizations.
