Members of the Duquesne community are invited to attend the virtual Père Jacques Laval C.S.Sp., Global Public Health Speaker Series, which continues this semester with three events. Sponsored by the Center for African Studies, the series focuses on global public health concerns.

Dr. Vibhuti Arya, clinical professor in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John’s University, will kick off the series with her presentation, Structural Racism and Health Equity, on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. via Zoom. She will discuss the meaning of structural racism, its impact on physical and mental health, and the role students and faculty can play in furthering these conversations in academia.
Arya also is a clinical advisor to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygeine, and is a global lead for gender equity and diversity workforce development for the Federation of International Pharmacy.
Attendees are asked to RSVP to Arya’s presentation online by Tuesday, Feb. 16. A Zoom link will be emailed the morning of the event.
The Père Jacques Laval C.S.Sp., Global Public Health Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy and the Rangos School of Health Sciences.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, including the schedule of the series’ additional speakers, call 412.396.2651, email africanstudies@duq.edu or visit the Center for African Studies website for more information.
