In conjunction with April designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), all members of the University community are encouraged to engage in educational activities and dialogue aimed at eliminating sexual assault and violence.
This week, the Office of Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response is focusing on bystander intervention to help individuals recognize a potentially harmful situation or interaction and help to positively influence the outcome. The office also hosted a virtual interactive bystander intervention workshop with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR).
SAAM programming also has important information about Duquesne’s Title IX resources and reporting options.
Alicia Simpson, the University’s new title IX coordinator and director of sexual misconduct prevention and response, recently spent time in the Union introducing herself to students and passing out Be Safe Cards, which include contact information for University and community resources and more.
Title IX staff provided the following resources and reporting options to help employees.
- Review the University’s policies on Title IX Sexual Harassment under TAP 61 and non-Title IX Sexual Misconduct under TAP 31
- Contact Simpson at 396.2560 or simspona8@duq.edu for guidance or to report an incident
- Report an incident using the Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Anonymous Reporting Form.
University employees are a critical component to keep the campus safe from sexual assault and violence. Visit duq.edu/TitleIX/SAAM for more information about bystander intervention and other upcoming Title IX SAAM programming throughout April.
