The new Canevin Center for Educational Transformation and Social Justice was dedicated during a May 2 ceremony.
Pittsburgh Bishop the Most Rev. David A. Zubik, D.D., a 1982 master’s graduate of the school, performed a blessing during a ceremony that included President Charles J. Dougherty, Education Dean Dr. Olga M. Welch and Dr. Gretchen Generett, director of the Canevin Center and associate education dean. The Rev. Naos McCool, C.S.Sp., assistant dean for formation for the School of Education, offered the closing prayer.
The initiative, which represents the work conducted by the School of Education, will guide future generations of teachers by linking scholarship, resources, community partnerships and educational leadership in an environment that champions equity and social justice for all youth.
The Canevin Center was established through an educational grant from The Heinz Endowments.
