Modus operandi, ritual and staging behavior will be explored during Analyzing and Interpreting Behavior in Serial Murders and Sexual Homicides on Friday, April 19, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Africa Room of the Union. Hosted by the Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law, this is the fourth in the five-part Forensic Fridays series.

The seminar will feature presenter Mark Safarik, president of Forensic Behavioral Services Inc., who is a former supervisory special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Geared toward violent crime investigators, crime scene technicians, medical examiners, coroners, forensic nurses and attorneys, the seminar will provide a framework for analyzing the dynamic interaction that occurs between the offender, victim and scene and then using that analysis to interpret crime attributes such as motive, victimology, risk level, cause of death, weapon use, injury severity, and the degree of planning and organization. Examination of these various behavioral attributes will be applied to complex homicide and sexual assault cases.

Analyzing and Interpreting Behavior in Serial Murders and Sexual Homicides will also include a discussion of investigative and prosecutorial considerations and the awareness of the important aspects of evidence collection and processing.

Duquesne students, faculty and staff may register for the seminar for free, but faculty and staff are asked to pay a $5 service charge to attend.
