Students will simulate a night of homelessness by camping out on the Mellon Hall Patio, after discussing the realities of being homeless at an event sponsored by Duquesne’s St. Vincent de Paul Society.

A discussion about homelessness will be held this Friday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in Room 104 of College Hall. Food, games and a documentary screening will follow.

Volunteers willing to experience something of a night without a home are asked to bring a sleeping bag, blanket, warm clothes and an optional donation to the event, which will conclude with a campout on the Mellon Patio.

“The purpose of the event is to show everyone the humanity of the homeless,” said Joe Ratay, president of the Duquesne St. Vincent de Paul Society. “Our goal this year has been to express to the Duquesne and Pittsburgh communities the reality of homelessness and to tear down stereotypes.”
