A record number of graduate students from across the University will present 112 research projects at the fourth annual Graduate Student Research Symposium sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Research.
More than 130 students will participate in oral presentations and poster sessions during the symposium on Friday, March 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Dougherty Ballroom in the Power Center. This year marks a 30 percent increase in both projects and participants from the 2015 symposium.
Research topics vary thanks to the inclusion of graduate students from six of the nine schools, but many projects are rooted in current events, such as:
- Refugee-Led Organizations and the Obstacles They Face: A Comparative Study of Syria Bright Future (SBF) and the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh (BCAP)
- Standards of Medicine and the Human Right to Healthcare
- Cultural Care and Inviting Practices: Building Relationships in an Urban Elementary School. Teacher Perspectives in Forming Positive Teacher-Student Relationships Based on Care.
Twelve monetary awards will be given to outstanding projects by various schools and organizations.
